Old-style patisserie is trendy
07/08/2011
The last years have seen the rise of the so-called macarons, championed by Paris-based patisserie Ladurée. For those of you who have had the opportunity to visit Ladurée you may have been struck by the old-style (almost rococo) in pastel tones deco.
I was in Lille (in the north of France) last weekend and they have also a famous patisserie (established 1781), Meert, which is famous for his waffles filled with Madagascar vanilla-flavored cream. This once old-fashioned store has now become a trendy and must-be place (despite outrageous prices).
I could not resist the temptation to buy a few waffles and to take pictures of the décor which, I must admit, looks very much like that of Ladurée.
